AI Text Cleaner

Remove Markdown, em dashes and chatbot filler

How to clean up AI-generated text

  1. Paste a reply from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot.
  2. Choose what to remove: Markdown symbols such as ** and ##, em dashes, curly quotes, emoji, hidden characters, and stock chatbot phrases like "Certainly!" and "I hope this helps".
  3. Copy the cleaned text as plain text, or as rich text with paragraphs for Word, Google Docs, Outlook or a CMS.

Why AI text needs cleaning

Chatbots write in Markdown, so when you copy an answer into an email, a form, a Word document or a social post, you often get stray asterisks, hash signs and backticks. They also have recognisable habits: frequent em dashes, curly quotes, emoji bullets, and boilerplate openings and sign-offs. Removing these makes text easier to paste anywhere and reads more naturally in your own voice.

Some copied AI text can also contain invisible Unicode characters, such as zero-width spaces and narrow no-break spaces, which break searches, spreadsheets and code. The cleaner removes them along with soft hyphens. This tool does not try to disguise authorship or "beat AI detectors": that is neither reliable nor its purpose. If you are using AI help where disclosure is expected, such as coursework or journalism, follow the rules that apply. It simply tidies formatting so you can edit the content properly. Everything runs in your browser.

Why does ChatGPT use so many em dashes?

Language models learned from large amounts of edited writing where em dashes are common, and they tend to overuse them. Commas or full stops usually work just as well.

How do I paste ChatGPT text into Word without asterisks?

Clean it here and use "Copy as rich text" to keep paragraphs, or ChatGPT's own copy button, which keeps formatting in many apps.

Does this make text undetectable as AI?

No, and it is not designed to. It removes formatting and filler so the text is easier to edit and paste.
