How to record video with your webcam
- Press Start camera and allow camera (and microphone) access when your browser asks.
- Choose the camera and resolution. Untick "Record sound" for silent video.
- Press Record video, then Stop recording when you are done. Preview the clip and download it. Use Take photo for a snapshot at full camera resolution.
- Press Turn off to release the camera; the camera light should go out.
Private recording in your browser
Many online webcam recorders upload your video to process it. This one does not: the browser's MediaRecorder encodes the video on your device, and the file only exists in your browser until you download it. WebM is used in Chrome and Firefox, and MP4 in Safari and recent Chrome and Edge. The preview is mirrored by default because that feels natural, like a mirror, but recordings are saved the right way round, as others see you. Photos follow the mirror setting.
The information panel shows the resolution and the measured frame rate the camera actually delivers, which is useful before video calls. In low light, many webcams drop to 15 fps or lower; more light, not a higher resolution setting, usually gives the biggest improvement. If the camera does not start, close other apps that might be using it, such as Zoom or Teams, and check the camera permission in the address bar.
Is there a time limit?
No fixed limit; long recordings are limited by your device's memory.
Why is my video mirrored?
Only the preview is mirrored. Recorded video is saved unmirrored. Untick "Mirror preview" to see the true view.
Can I use my phone camera?
Yes. On phones, choose the front or back camera from the Camera list after starting.
