SERP Preview Tool

See your page in Google results on desktop and mobile

Previews use Google's fonts and pixel limits (about 600 px for titles, 920 px desktop and 680 px mobile for descriptions). Google may still rewrite titles and snippets.

How to preview your Google search result

  1. Enter your page title, meta description and URL.
  2. Optionally type the search query you are targeting: matching words are bolded in the snippet, as Google does.
  3. Switch between Desktop and Mobile to see where the title and description get cut off. The counters show both characters and pixel width.
  4. Try the date and star-rating options to see how rich results change the space available.
  5. Edit until the important words are visible, then copy the tags.

Why pixels, not characters?

Google truncates titles and descriptions by their rendered width. A title full of wide letters such as W and M is cut much earlier than one with narrow letters such as i and l, so a 60-character limit is only a rough guide. This tool measures your text with the same font and size Google uses: about 600 pixels for desktop titles and about 920 pixels (two lines) for desktop descriptions, less on mobile.

Writing snippets that get clicks

Google may rewrite titles and descriptions, especially when they are too long, vague or stuffed with keywords, so clear and accurate copy has the best chance of being shown as written. Everything here runs locally in your browser.

How many characters fit in a Google title?

Usually 50–60, depending on letter widths. The pixel counter is more accurate than a character count.

Why is my date showing in the snippet?

Google shows a date for articles and news when it detects a publication date on the page or in structured data. The date uses part of the description space.

Does a better snippet improve rankings?

Not directly, but a higher click-through rate brings more visitors from the same position and can signal relevance.
