- The India standard rate of 18% is already selected.

- For goods at a reduced rate, type that rate in the rate box. Paste a list of prices, one per line, to convert them all at once.
GST rates in India
| Rate | Applies to (examples) |
|---|---|
| 18% | Standard rate: most goods and services |
| 5% | essential goods and many daily-use items |
| 40% | luxury and “sin” goods such as tobacco and some vehicles |
| 0% | fresh food, health and education services and other exempt supplies |
In India the tax is called GST. To add 18%, multiply the net price by 1.18: ₹100.00 becomes ₹118.00. To remove it, divide the gross price by 1.18: ₹100.00 including GST is ₹84.75 net plus ₹15.25 GST. A common mistake is to take 18% off the gross price, which removes too much; the GST share of a gross price is 9/59, or 15.25%.
Since the GST rate rationalisation of 22 September 2025, most goods and services fall in two main slabs, 5% and 18%, with 40% for a short list of luxury and sin goods. Within a state GST is split equally into CGST and SGST (9% + 9% at 18%); across states it is charged as IGST.
Standard and reduced rates checked on 20 October 2026 against the GST Council and CBIC (cbic-gst.gov.in). Rates can change with each budget; the rate box is editable if a change takes effect.
FAQ
How is GST split into CGST and SGST?
For a sale within one state, half goes to the centre (CGST) and half to the state (SGST): 18% GST is 9% CGST + 9% SGST. Inter-state sales pay IGST at the full rate.
How do I remove GST from a price in India?
Divide the price including GST by 1.18. For example, ₹118.00 ÷ 1.18 = ₹100.00 net, so the GST is ₹18.00.
Does the calculator save my rate?
Yes, the last rate and country you used are remembered in this browser. Nothing is uploaded.
