In New Zealand the tax is called GST. To add 15%, multiply the net price by 1.15: $100.00 becomes $115.00. To remove it, divide the gross price by 1.15: $100.00 including GST is $86.96 net plus $13.04 GST. A common mistake is to take 15% off the gross price, which removes too much; the GST share of a gross price is 3/23, or 13.04%.

Businesses must register for GST when turnover exceeds NZ$60,000 in 12 months. Because 15% is added to the net price, the GST in a GST-inclusive price is exactly 3/23 of it.

Standard and reduced rates checked on 20 October 2026 against Inland Revenue (ird.govt.nz). Rates can change with each budget; the rate box is editable if a change takes effect.
