CSV to JSON Converter

Turn CSV or spreadsheet exports into JSON

How to convert CSV to JSON

  1. Paste CSV text or open a .csv or .tsv file exported from Excel, Google Sheets, a database or a CRM.
  2. The delimiter is detected automatically, whether comma, semicolon, tab or pipe; you can also pick it yourself.
  3. With First row is header ticked, each row becomes an object whose keys are the column names. Untick it to get generic column1, column2 keys.
  4. Leave Detect numbers & booleans on to turn 42 into a number and true into a boolean, or off to keep every value as a string.
  5. Copy the JSON array or download it as a file.

Handles real-world CSV

Spreadsheet exports are messier than they look. This converter follows the CSV standard (RFC 4180): quoted fields can contain commas, semicolons and even line breaks, doubled quotes inside a field become a single quote, and a byte-order mark from Excel is stripped. If a row has more or fewer fields than the header, the status line says how many such rows there are, which usually means an unquoted delimiter somewhere.

Values with leading zeros such as postcodes and phone numbers are kept as strings so they are not damaged. Your file is processed in your browser and never uploaded, so it is safe for customer lists and financial exports.

FAQ

How do I convert an Excel file to JSON?

In Excel, choose File → Save As → CSV UTF-8, then open the CSV here. For Google Sheets, use File → Download → Comma-separated values.

My CSV uses semicolons. Will it work?

Yes. Semicolons, common in European exports, are detected automatically, as are tabs and pipes.

Can I get nested JSON from CSV?

Each row becomes a flat object. If your column names use dots, such as address.city, you can unflatten them in code afterwards.
