How to pick a random name

  1. Type or paste the names or options, one per line. The list is saved in the page link so you can bookmark or share it.
  2. Choose Wheel and spin (or click the wheel), choose Pick to draw one or several names at once, or Teams to split everyone into random groups.
  3. Tick "Remove the winner" to draw without repeats, for example when choosing the order of presentations.

Fair, truly random picks

Every name has exactly the same chance. The picker uses your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues), the same source used for passwords, rather than Math.random, and the wheel's landing position is decided before it starts spinning; the animation is just for fun. Team splits are made by shuffling the list with the Fisher–Yates algorithm and dealing names out in turn, so team sizes never differ by more than one.

Teachers use it to call on students and form groups, streamers and community managers for giveaways, offices for meeting facilitators and secret tasks, and friends for deciding who pays or where to eat. The names never leave your browser except in the link you choose to share. For gift exchanges with private results, use the Secret Santa generator.

Is the wheel really random?

Yes. The winner is chosen with a secure random generator, and every name has an equal share of the wheel.

How many names can I add?

Up to 500. The wheel hides labels above 120 names, but picking still works.

Can I make balanced teams?

Teams are random and differ in size by at most one person. Choose the number of teams or the team size.
