How to convert shoe sizes
- Choose the size system you know (US men's, US women's, UK, EU or foot length in centimetres) and type the size. Half sizes such as 8.5 work.
- Read the equivalent in every other system, plus your approximate foot length.
- Not sure of your size? Switch to Measure my foot and enter your foot length to get a recommendation.
Why shoe sizes are so confusing
Each system counts differently. UK and US sizes use the old English barleycorn (⅓ inch) per size, starting from different points: US men's sizes are usually one size above UK, and US women's sizes about 1.5 above US men's, so a UK 6 is roughly a US women's 8.5. European sizes use the Paris point (⅔ cm) and measure the shoe last rather than the foot, so EU 42 is a last of about 28 cm. Japanese and Mondopoint sizes simply give the foot length in centimetres or millimetres, which is the most reliable reference when ordering.
This converter uses those standard formulas, rounded to the nearest half size, and matches typical sports-brand charts within half a size. Real fit varies with brand, width and style: running shoes are often sized half a size up, and some European brands only make whole sizes. Measure your feet in the evening when they are largest, and leave about a thumb's width (1–1.5 cm) of space in front of your toes. Adult sizes only; children's sizes use separate scales. Everything runs in your browser.
What is a US men's 9 in EU?
About EU 42 (UK 8).
How do I convert women's to men's shoe sizes?
In US sizes, subtract 1.5: a women's 8.5 is about a men's 7. UK sizes are the same for both.
Is EU sizing the same for men and women?
Yes. EU sizes are unisex, based on the length of the shoe last.
