How to find your screen resolution
- Open this page; your resolution appears instantly. There is nothing to install or click.
- The big number is the approximate physical resolution: the CSS screen size multiplied by the device pixel ratio.
- The table lists the browser viewport, scaling, aspect ratio, colour depth, HDR, touch support and more. Resize the window to watch the viewport update, and use Copy all details for support tickets or bug reports.
CSS pixels, physical pixels and scaling
Browsers report sizes in CSS pixels, which are scaled for comfortable reading. On a laptop with a 2560 × 1600 panel and 200% scaling (a Retina MacBook, for example), the browser reports 1280 × 800 CSS pixels and a device pixel ratio of 2. Windows often uses 125% or 150% scaling, so a 1920 × 1080 laptop screen appears as 1536 × 864. Multiplying by the device pixel ratio gives the physical resolution, which is what you need for wallpapers and screenshots. With fractional scaling and browser zoom the result can be off by a pixel or two, and browser zoom changes the ratio too, so reset zoom to 100% for an accurate reading.
The viewport is the part of the window where web pages are drawn, which web designers use to test responsive layouts; the available screen excludes the taskbar or Dock. Everything here is read from standard browser properties on your device; nothing is sent anywhere or used for tracking.
What is the most common screen resolution?
1920 × 1080 (Full HD) on desktops; phones vary widely, often around 390–430 CSS pixels wide.
Why does it show a smaller number than my monitor's spec?
Display scaling is on. The physical resolution line multiplies by the scaling factor.
How do I check my phone's screen size for web design?
Open this page on the phone and read "Browser viewport".
