How to make a location QR code

  1. Enter the latitude and longitude in decimal degrees, for example 51.5007 and -0.1246, and optionally a place name.
  2. The QR code updates as you type. Check the encoded text under the code to confirm the details.
  3. Download it as PNG for screens and documents or SVG for print at any size, and test it with your phone camera before sharing.

Finding the coordinates

In Google Maps on a computer, right-click the exact spot and click the coordinates at the top of the menu to copy them. On a phone, press and hold to drop a pin and the coordinates appear in the search box. In Apple Maps, drop a pin and swipe up to see them. Use the entrance rather than the middle of a large building, so visitors are guided to the right door.

Location codes use the standard geo: format, which opens the default maps app on most phones. They are useful on wedding and party invitations, event signs, parking instructions, holiday rental guides, delivery notes, trailheads and geocaching. Some older iPhones show the coordinates as text instead of opening Maps; if that matters for your audience, use a Google Maps link in the URL QR code instead.

The code is generated entirely in your browser by a built-in encoder, so the details you type are never uploaded, logged or tracked, and the QR code does not expire or redirect through a third-party service. Static codes like these work forever, but the content cannot be edited after printing, so double-check before you print a batch.
