How to check title and description lengths in bulk
- Choose what to check: page titles, meta descriptions, or URLs and slugs.
- Paste one item per line. You can copy a whole column from a spreadsheet, a CMS export or a site crawl.
- Each line is measured in characters and in pixels (for titles and descriptions) and given a status. Duplicates are flagged, because every page should have its own title and description.
- Download the results as CSV to share with your team or attach to an audit.
The limits used
Titles are measured in 20 px Arial, the font Google uses on desktop, against a limit of about 600 pixels, which is usually 50–60 characters. Descriptions are measured in 14 px Arial against about 920 pixels for desktop; on mobile, roughly 680 pixels are shown. Pixel width is more accurate than counting characters, because capital letters and wide letters like W and M take far more space than i, l and t.
What makes a good URL slug?
Short, readable slugs are easier to share, remember and click. The URL checker flags uppercase letters (URLs are case-sensitive, so they cause duplicates), underscores (Google treats hyphens as word separators but not underscores), spaces, long slugs, filler stop words, years that will date the page, query parameters and slugs without descriptive words. A good slug looks like /blog/grow-tomatoes.
All checks run locally; nothing you paste is uploaded.
Should I change existing URLs to make them shorter?
Only with care. Changing a URL loses some ranking signals unless you add a 301 redirect, so improve slugs mainly for new pages.
Does Google use the full title even if it is truncated?
Google reads the whole title for ranking, but users only see the visible part, so put the key words first.
Can I check titles of a live site?
Export them with a crawler or your CMS, then paste the column here. The tool does not fetch pages itself.
