What is lorem ipsum?
Lorem ipsum is scrambled Latin placeholder text used in design and publishing since the 1500s. It comes from Cicero's De finibus bonorum et malorum (45 BC), with words cut and altered so it reads like natural text without meaning anything. Because readers cannot get distracted by the content, it lets clients and teams judge layout, typography and spacing on their own.
Designers use it in website mock-ups, app wireframes, brochures, presentation templates and email designs. Developers use it to test text wrapping, overflow and responsive layouts with realistic paragraph lengths. The character option helps when you need to test a field limit, such as a 160-character description.
A word of caution: placeholder text sometimes gets published by accident. Search your site for "lorem" before launch, and replace filler with real content as early as possible, because real words change layouts more than you expect.
What does lorem ipsum mean?
Nothing, deliberately. It derives from Cicero's "dolorem ipsum" ("pain itself") but the words were scrambled so the text has no meaning.
Can I get lorem ipsum in HTML?
Yes. Choose HTML tags to get paragraphs wrapped in <p> or a <ul> list ready to paste into your code.
Is the text different each time?
Yes. Sentences are assembled randomly from the classic vocabulary, so each press of Generate gives new text.
