How to clean up text
- Paste your text into the left box: text copied from a PDF, an email, a web page, a Word document, a spreadsheet or an AI chat.
- Tick the cleaning steps you need. The clean version updates instantly on the right.
- Copy the result, or press Use as input to run another round with different options.
What each option fixes
- Remove line breaks (keep paragraphs) joins lines that were broken in the middle of sentences, which happens when you copy from PDFs and emails, but keeps blank lines between paragraphs.
- Remove extra spaces collapses double spaces and tabs and trims lines.
- Invisible characters such as zero-width spaces and non-breaking spaces cause odd line wrapping and failed searches; they are removed or replaced by normal spaces.
- Smart and straight quotes: curly quotes break code, CSV files and some websites, while straight quotes look amateur in printed text. Convert either way.
- Strip HTML and decode entities turn web markup into plain readable text.
- Remove accents, emoji, punctuation, numbers, URLs or non-ASCII characters for data cleaning, slugs, file names and systems that only accept plain characters.
Steps run in the order listed. All processing happens in your browser; your text is not uploaded.
How do I remove line breaks from text copied from a PDF?
Tick "Remove line breaks (keep paragraphs)". Lines inside paragraphs are joined, and hyphenated words split across lines are rejoined.
How do I convert curly quotes to straight quotes?
Tick "Smart quotes → straight quotes". Curly single and double quotes, ellipses and dashes become their plain-keyboard versions.
Will removing accents change the meaning of words?
It can in some languages (for example Spanish año and ano), so use it for slugs, IDs and search data rather than for text people read.
