How to count business days
- Choose Days between dates and pick a start and end date to count the working days in between, or choose Add working days to find the date that is a number of working days after (or before) a start date.
- Set your weekend: Saturday and Sunday by default, or Friday and Saturday as in much of the Middle East.
- Exclude public holidays for the United States or England and Wales, which are calculated automatically for any year, including moving dates such as Thanksgiving and Easter.
- Add your own days off, such as company shutdown days, one date per line. The holidays that fell in your period are listed so you can check them.
When you need a working-day count
Business days drive many real deadlines: invoice payment terms ("net 30 business days"), delivery estimates, notice periods, legal and court deadlines, project schedules, payroll, visa processing times and service-level agreements. Getting the count wrong by a day or two because of a holiday weekend can mean a missed deadline or a late fee, so it pays to calculate rather than count on a calendar.
By default both the start and end dates are counted, which is how most people count "from Monday to Friday is 5 working days". Untick the option to count only the days strictly between the two dates, which some contracts specify. When a public holiday falls on a weekend, the observed weekday is used: for US federal holidays the nearest Friday or Monday, and for UK bank holidays the next weekday, following official rules.

How many working days are in a year?
Usually 260 or 261 weekdays, minus public holidays: about 250 in the US and 252–253 in England and Wales.
Does it include the start date?
With "Count both start and end date" ticked, yes. Untick it to count only the days in between.
