How to track your time
- Type what you are working on, pick or type a project and, if you bill clients, the client name. Press Start (or Enter).
- Press Stop when you finish. The entry is saved with its start and end time. The timer keeps running if you close the tab or restart the browser, and the tab title shows the elapsed time.
- Forgot to start the timer? Open Add time manually and enter a start and end time or a duration such as 1:30 or 1.5 hours.
- Set an hourly rate for each project (or one default rate). Untick Billable for internal work such as admin or learning.
- Choose a period for the report: this week, last week, this month or a custom range. You get total hours, billable hours and the amount to invoice per project. Export a CSV for your invoice or spreadsheet, or print the report.
Why track billable hours?
Freelancers and agencies routinely under-bill because short tasks, calls and email go unrecorded. Tracking as you work, rather than reconstructing the week on Friday, gives accurate invoices and shows which clients and projects are actually profitable: divide the fee by the hours you really spent to get your effective hourly rate. The weekly report also helps with estimates for future projects and with timesheets for employers or agencies.
The ▶ button next to any entry continues that task with a new timer, which makes it easy to switch between a few recurring projects. Rounding is left to you: the CSV holds exact hours to two decimals, so you can apply your contract's rounding rule (for example to the nearest 6 or 15 minutes) when you invoice. For invoices, enter the hours and rate in the invoice generator.
Your entries are stored only in this browser, with no account and no upload. Use Backup (JSON) regularly, and Restore to move your data to another device or browser. Clearing your browser data deletes the entries, so keep a backup.
Does the timer keep running if I close the page?
Yes. The start time is saved, so when you reopen the page the timer shows the correct elapsed time.
How do I convert minutes to decimal hours for an invoice?
Divide minutes by 60: 1 hour 45 minutes is 1.75 hours. The CSV export already uses decimal hours.
Can I track time for several clients?
Yes. Each entry has a project and client, each project can have its own rate, and the report totals them separately.
Is my data private?
Yes. Everything stays in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
