How to study with online flashcards

  1. Open Edit cards and type or paste your cards, one per line, with the front and back separated by a dash, colon, equals sign or tab. You can paste two columns straight from a spreadsheet.
  2. Save the deck and switch to Study. Read the front, try to recall the answer, then click the card (or press Space) to flip it.
  3. Press Got it (2) if you knew it, or Again (1) to see it again a few cards later. The session ends when every card is answered correctly.
  4. Shuffle the order, study back-to-front, or share the deck with classmates as a link.

Why flashcards work

Flashcards combine two of the most effective learning techniques known from memory research: active recall (retrieving an answer from memory instead of rereading it) and spaced repetition (reviewing difficult items more often). Cards you miss come back a few cards later in the same session, so you practise them until they stick, while cards you know are not repeated. Short, frequent sessions over several days beat one long cram session.

Use them for vocabulary, exam facts, formulas, historical dates, medical terminology, coding shortcuts or anything that fits a question-and-answer format. Keep each card to one fact, and write answers in your own words. Your deck is saved in this browser; sharing creates a link containing the cards themselves, so nothing is stored on a server.

Can I import from a spreadsheet?

Yes. Copy two columns (front and back) and paste them; tab-separated lines are recognised.

Can I share a deck?

Yes. "Share deck link" copies a link that contains the cards, so anyone can open and study them.

Can I have several decks?

One deck is saved at a time. Share links or keep your card lists in a note to switch between decks.
