Salary to Hourly Calculator

Convert pay between hourly, weekly, monthly and yearly

How to convert salary to hourly pay

  1. Enter your pay and choose what it is per: hour, day, week, two weeks, half month, month or year.
  2. Adjust your hours per week, days per week and paid weeks per year if they differ from a standard 40-hour, 5-day, 52-week job.
  3. Read your equivalent pay for every period. All figures are gross, before tax and deductions.

The formulas

Everything is converted through a yearly figure. Hourly pay = annual salary ÷ (hours per week × paid weeks per year). With 40 hours and 52 weeks there are 2,080 paid hours a year, so 52,000 a year is exactly 25.00 an hour, and 20 an hour is 41,600 a year. Monthly pay is the yearly amount ÷ 12, biweekly is two weeks' pay (26 paychecks a year) and semi-monthly is the yearly amount ÷ 24.

A month is not four weeks: 52 weeks ÷ 12 = 4.33 weeks per month. That is why a monthly salary is about 8% more than four weekly paychecks, and why a biweekly schedule produces two "extra" paychecks a year compared with a twice-a-month one.

Comparing job offers

When comparing a salaried and an hourly role, set the paid weeks to reflect unpaid time off: an hourly job with two unpaid weeks has 50 paid weeks. Also consider overtime rules, benefits such as health insurance and pension contributions, and commuting time, which do not show up in the hourly rate. Paid holidays in a salaried job are already included when you use 52 weeks. Nothing you type is stored on a server.

How much is 50,000 a year per hour?

About 24.04 an hour, assuming 40 hours a week and 52 paid weeks (2,080 hours).

How many work hours are in a year?

2,080 for a full-time 40-hour week with all 52 weeks paid. Subtract unpaid holidays to get your actual paid hours.

Is this before or after tax?

Before tax. Take-home pay depends on your country, tax code, and deductions such as pension and insurance.
