How to flatten a PDF

  1. Drop a PDF that contains form fields.
  2. The fields are listed with their current answers; change anything you need.
  3. Press Flatten and save. The downloaded PDF has the answers drawn onto the pages, and the fields are removed.

What flattening does and why it helps

Interactive form fields are a separate layer on top of the page. Different viewers display them differently: some hide answers when printing, some on phones show empty boxes, and anyone can change the values. Flattening merges the field values into the page itself, so the document looks exactly the same everywhere and the answers can no longer be edited by accident or on purpose.

Many organisations ask for flattened PDFs for submitted applications, signed agreements and archived records. It also avoids problems when merging forms into larger documents, since field names can clash. Keep an unflattened copy if you might need to change your answers later.

The PDF is processed locally in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

FAQ

Can a flattened PDF be un-flattened?

No. The fields are removed, so keep the original if you need to edit answers later.

Does flattening reduce quality?

No. Field values are drawn as vector text, so they stay sharp.

My PDF has no fields. Can I flatten it?

It is already flat. To lock it further, convert pages to images with Compress PDF.
