How Instagram fonts work
Instagram does not let you choose a font, but it does accept any Unicode character. These fonts are really special characters that look like styled letters, so they keep their appearance in bios, names, captions, comments, stories and DMs. Bold and script styles are the most readable; heavy styles such as gothic or zalgo are best for one or two words.
Tips for using them well: keep your @username plain, since it only allows letters, numbers, dots and underscores. Use a fancy font for your display name or a heading line in your bio, and keep the rest readable. Instagram search does not match styled letters to normal words, so a fully styled name can be harder to find, and screen readers struggle with them. Bios are limited to 150 characters, and some styles use more than one character per letter.

FAQ
Can I change my Instagram font?
Not with a setting, but you can paste Unicode font text from here into your name, bio and captions.
Will people see the same font?
Almost everyone will, since these are standard Unicode characters. Very old devices may show boxes.
Do fancy fonts hurt discoverability?
Styled names may not appear in search for the plain word, so keep important keywords in normal text.
