Small caps in typography and online
In print, small caps are capital letters drawn at about the height of lowercase letters. They are used for acronyms, the first words of a chapter and a refined, understated look. Online, the same effect is made with Unicode's small capital letters, mainly from the phonetic alphabet blocks, which gives the minimalist "aesthetic" style popular in bios and usernames.
Unicode has a small capital for almost every letter, but not all: there is no true small capital Q or X, so the closest available characters are used. Some fonts draw these phonetic letters slightly differently from the rest of the text, and screen readers may not read them as words. For a word processor document, use the built-in small caps formatting instead (in Word, Ctrl+Shift+K), which keeps the text searchable and accessible.
