How to count the days until a date
- Pick the target date, or choose an event from the quick list: New Year's Day, Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween, US Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Eve.
- Read the number of days to go, the same span in weeks and days, and how many weekdays (Monday to Friday) are left.
How the count works
The count is the number of midnights between today and the target date, which is what most people mean by "days until": if the event is tomorrow, it shows 1 day. The "sleeps" figure is the same number, for children counting down to birthdays and holidays. Past dates show how many days ago they were.
Easter moves every year; it is calculated with the standard Gregorian algorithm for the first Sunday after the ecclesiastical full moon. Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November. Once an event has passed this year, the quick pick jumps to next year's date.
For a live countdown with hours, minutes and seconds to show on a screen, use the countdown timer. To count days between two dates that do not include today, use the "Days between" tab. Dates are handled as calendar days, so daylight saving changes do not affect the result.
