How to crop a PDF

  1. Drop a PDF on the box. A preview of the first page appears.
  2. Enter how much to trim from the top, bottom, left and right in millimetres. The dashed frame shows what will be kept.
  3. Optionally limit cropping to certain pages, for example 2- to leave the cover alone.
  4. Press Crop PDF and download the result.

What cropping does

Cropping removes white margins, scanner borders, printer marks, headers and footers from view, so pages fit better on phone and tablet screens and look cleaner when shared. It is handy for academic papers with wide margins, slides exported with large borders, scanned book pages, and PDFs you want to print as smaller booklets.

By default the tool sets the page's CropBox, which is what PDF viewers and printers display. The content outside the crop is hidden, not deleted, so it is a lossless change that can be undone in an editor. Tick Also shrink the page size to change the MediaBox as well, which makes some programs treat the cropped size as the real page size. If you need the hidden content truly removed for privacy, convert the pages to images afterwards with Compress PDF.

The PDF is processed entirely in your browser.

Is the cropped area deleted?

No, it is hidden by the crop box. Text outside it may still be in the file. Flatten the pages to images if you must remove it.

Can I crop different pages differently?

Crop one range, download, then load the result and crop the next range with different margins.

How many millimetres is a typical margin?

Word documents usually have 25 mm (1 inch) margins. Trimming 15โ€“20 mm from each side keeps a little white space.
