How to cut an audio file

  1. Drop an MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG or FLAC file (or a video to use its soundtrack).
  2. Drag the two handles on the waveform to choose the part to keep, or type exact start and end times in seconds.
  3. Press Play selection to check it. Add a fade in or fade out, change the volume or normalize the loudness.
  4. Save as MP3 (choose the quality) or lossless WAV.

Make ringtones, clips and samples

Trim the best 30 seconds of a song for an iPhone or Android ringtone, cut silence from the start of a voice note, extract a sample for a beat, or shorten a podcast clip for social media. A short fade-out stops the cut from ending abruptly, and normalize raises the volume until the loudest peak reaches just below the maximum without distortion.

The file is decoded with your browser's audio engine, cut sample-accurately, and encoded again: WAV is uncompressed 16-bit PCM, and MP3 uses the open-source LAME encoder (lamejs), loaded only when you choose MP3. Choose 192 kbps or higher for music and 128 kbps for speech. Re-encoding an MP3 always costs a little quality, so start from the best source you have.

Your audio stays on your device; nothing is uploaded.

How do I make an iPhone ringtone?

Cut up to 30 seconds, save as MP3, then import it with GarageBand on the iPhone or through Finder/iTunes on a computer and set it as a ringtone.

Which formats can I open?

Anything your browser can decode: MP3, WAV, AAC/M4A, OGG/Opus and FLAC in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. WMA and some AIFF files may not work.

Does cutting reduce quality?

WAV output is lossless from the decoded audio. MP3 output is re-encoded; at 192–320 kbps the difference is hard to hear.
