How to extract audio from a video

  1. Drop a video file. Its soundtrack is decoded and shown as a waveform.
  2. Keep the whole track or drag the handles to pick a section, such as one song from a concert recording or a quote from an interview.
  3. Choose MP3 or WAV and click Download.

Supported videos

Your browser decodes the audio track directly from the video file. MP4 videos with AAC audio (from phones, cameras and most downloads) and WebM videos with Opus or Vorbis audio work in all current browsers. MOV files from iPhones usually work, because their audio is AAC even when the video is HEVC. Very large files are limited by your device's memory; a few hundred megabytes is fine on a computer.

Uses include saving a lecture or podcast recording for listening on the go, extracting music or a voice-over for editing, and getting a clean audio file for transcription. Respect copyright: only extract audio from videos you have the right to use. Processing is local, so recordings of meetings and family videos stay private.

FAQ

Can I extract audio from a YouTube video?

This tool works on video files you have on your device. Downloading from YouTube may break its terms of service.

Why does my video show an error?

Its audio codec may not be supported by your browser (for example AC-3 in some MKV files).

Is the audio quality the same as in the video?

WAV is identical to the decoded track. MP3 re-encodes it; choose 256–320 kbps for music.
