How to create a ZIP file online
- Drop files on the box or tap to choose them. Use Add a folder to include a whole folder with its subfolders.
- Remove anything you do not need, and give the archive a name.
- Choose Compress to make it smaller, or Store only for files that are already compressed, such as photos and videos, where it saves time.
- Click Create ZIP. The archive downloads straight away.
About ZIP compression
ZIP bundles many files into one, which makes them easy to email, upload or keep together, and compresses them with the deflate algorithm. Text, documents, spreadsheets, code and uncompressed images usually shrink by 50โ90%. JPEG photos, MP3 and MP4 files are already compressed, so zipping them saves little; the tool automatically stores any file that would not get smaller. Folder paths are kept, file names are stored as UTF-8 so non-English names survive, and modification dates are preserved.
The archive is built in your browser with the native Compression Streams API, so it works offline and your files are never uploaded. The result opens with the built-in tools in Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android. Archives are limited to 4 GB, the classic ZIP limit.
Can I password-protect the ZIP?
Not here. Standard ZIP encryption is weak; to protect files, use the file encryption tool instead.
Why is my ZIP not much smaller?
Your files are probably already compressed (photos, videos, PDFs with images). ZIP still helps by bundling them into one file.
Does it keep folders?
Yes. Files added with "Add a folder" keep their relative paths inside the ZIP.
