How to split a GIF into frames

  1. Drop an animated GIF. Every frame is decoded and shown with its display time.
  2. Click any frame to download it, or download all frames as PNG (keeps transparency) or JPG in a ZIP.
  3. Press Sprite sheet to combine all frames into one grid image, handy for games and CSS animations.

How GIF frames work

An animated GIF stores a series of images, each with a delay and a "disposal method" that says what happens before the next frame is drawn: leave it in place, clear the area, or restore the previous image. Many GIFs save space by storing only the part of each frame that changes, so extracting the raw images often gives fragments. This tool decodes the GIF itself, including LZW decompression, interlacing, transparency and disposal, and gives you every frame fully composited, exactly as it appears when the animation plays.

Uses include picking the best still from a GIF, editing individual frames, reusing a reaction GIF as stickers, analysing an animation frame by frame, and converting GIF animations to sprite sheets. Decoding happens entirely in your browser with no upload; very long GIFs show the first 300 frames as thumbnails, but the ZIP includes all of them.

Will transparent GIFs keep their transparency?

Yes, when you download PNG frames. JPG frames get a white background.

Why do some frames look identical?

GIFs often repeat frames to hold an image longer; each stored frame is extracted.

Can I put the frames back together?

Yes. Edit them and use the images to GIF maker to create a new animation.
