How to convert VTT to SRT
- Drop a .vtt file (for example captions downloaded from a course platform, Zoom or YouTube) or paste its text.
- SRT is selected as the output. Shift the timing if the subtitles are out of sync.
- Download the .srt file or copy it.
What changes in the conversion
WebVTT and SubRip store the same information, cues with start and end times and text, with small differences. The converter removes the WEBVTT header and any NOTE or STYLE blocks, numbers each cue as SRT requires, and changes the millisecond separator from a full stop to a comma (00:01:02.500 becomes 00:01:02,500). VTT cue settings like position:10% or align:start have no SRT equivalent and are dropped; voice tags such as <v Speaker> can be removed with the "Remove formatting tags" option.
SRT is the format most widely accepted by desktop players such as VLC, video editors such as Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut, and TV media players. The conversion runs in your browser, so captions from private meetings never leave your device.
FAQ
Will styling be kept?
Basic tags like and are kept; VTT positioning settings are dropped because SRT does not support them.
Can I convert Zoom transcripts?
Yes. Zoom's .vtt transcripts convert directly; tick Remove formatting tags to drop speaker tags.
What encoding is the SRT?
UTF-8, which modern players read correctly.
