How to convert Excel to CSV
- Drop an .xlsx, .xls or .ods file on the box.
- Choose the worksheet with the tabs; CSV holds one sheet at a time.
- Pick the separator: comma is standard, semicolon suits Excel in Europe, tab makes a TSV.
- Click Download CSV.
What changes when you convert
CSV (comma-separated values) is plain text: one line per row, with cells separated by commas. It is the universal import format for databases, CRMs, email tools, accounting software and programming languages. Only the values are kept: formulas are replaced by their last calculated results, and formatting, colours, merged cells, charts and comments are dropped. Dates are written as ISO dates (YYYY-MM-DD), which import reliably everywhere.
Cells containing commas, quotes or line breaks are wrapped in quotes as the CSV standard requires, and the file starts with a UTF-8 byte-order mark so Excel shows accented letters and other scripts correctly when you open it again. Your workbook is read in your browser and never uploaded.
FAQ
Can I convert all sheets at once?
CSV holds one table, so convert sheets one by one, or download the workbook as JSON per sheet.
Why does Excel put everything in one column?
Your Excel expects semicolons (common in Europe). Choose the semicolon separator and download again.
Are formulas kept?
No. CSV stores values only; each formula is replaced by its result.
